Almost done with the game, and I gotta say...
Don't get it.

Story: The characters, both the good and the bad, are very forgettable and the player will find almost no incentive to pay attention to the story (which is completely boring).  I really really didn't care about what was going on 80% of the time.

Design: Gone are your shops and towns, replaced by a small floating device that does all the weapon selling and upgrading, level saving for you.  I personally didn't even care about what weapons I used (which is weird because I'm usually very obsessed with that sort of deal).

Gameplay: Battle system is impressive, but it gets so monotuous.  Eventually, once you get grinding going, all you really need to do is press X and L1 at times.

Graphics--Good, but Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and Killzone 2 look just as impressive if not better.  Graphics will always improve in the future anyways and is probably one of the most overhyped thing about gaming right now.  Look at Mario Galaxy 2.  I WANT that game because of witty level design and perfected gameplay.  But yeah, no doubt about it.  Final Fantasy XIII has good graphics.

Voices:  Lightning and Sahz do an impressive job English voice work, Fang and Hope are alright as well (but Hope is awkward).  Snow reminds me of the typical dumb anime protagonist, and Vanillle.........will Piss You Off!

Probably one of the worst games I ever bought to be perfectly honest.  I've invested a lot of time already into that game and plan to finish it, but I must warn you.  Don't bother with this one.  Wait for Vs. XIII or Persona 5 or a Tales game.  probably better.

I'll agree, Uncharted 2 definitely looked better. And by the end of the game, I wanted to put a shotgun down Vanille's throat, what with all the little screams and whimpers she does during battle. And the end of the game for me came after almost 80 hours. But I liked the ending, even if was a tad cliche.

Definitely different than FFXII was. I wanted to murder that game, too, by the end; I had about 160 hours in at the time. Murderous games they turn out to be.

The thing I did like about 12 though was the exploration, which is something xiii lacked completely! It made me feel like I was playing in an actual world, and they weren't afraid and didn't care whether or not I encountered a mysterious creature that totally pwned me.
Sure the story was a bit convoluted with political jargon, and granted the characters were pretty weak (but xiii's characters was completely japanese-anime stereotypes if you noticed), but at least the story had a legitimate reason for why the characters came together and at least the characters matched their time periods and did their parts. \

Final Fantasy 13 is a mess ):

I'll completely agree, I loved the freedom to explore in XII. XIII kinda ruined itself for me when I realized you'd be going on one path through the entire game. And leveling up meant playing the same area over and over and over again; I was stuck in Edenhall for almost a month, I think; and I only really got the hang of the weapon upgrade system about halfway through, when I read on some forum that mechanical parts took down the multiplier and organic things made it go up. Such a noob, I know.
I don't believe I ever truly understood the point of the politics in XII, but it didn't matter, since I was too busy going around and killing stuff to bother. I like the character design for XIII better than XII, though; not so much fancy magical medieval dress this time around, the designs actually fit. With the exception of Vanille, but everything was an exception for Vanille. I guess you could add Hope to that list, I never did figure out why he had a scarf thing around his neck. I'm patiently waiting for Versus XIII, hoping it's a hell of a lot better than XIII was.

If you go on youtube and look up the TGS square enix and they have a very very short reveal of ffvsxiii. It looks like you can free roam a lot more this time around

I'd love it if they brought that feature back. This one promises to be a bit darker than all the rest (finally) so hopefully no more giggly small children acting.

yes that would be just the bare minimum of my expectations that would lead to great improvement

No shops? Strange. Also, in the later FF games the characters become more easily forgettable, I don't know what's up with that. I'll have to see for myself though~

Haven't had time or funding to buy/play anything lately, was planning on borrowing or mooching FFXIII at somebody's house. X'D
